Sophia: Indonesian Journal of Feminist Studies is an academic journal that focuses on the development of feminist studies within the context of theology, religion, and Indonesian society. The journal is published by PERUATI (Perkumpulan Perempuan Alumni Pendidikan Teologi di Indonesia)
The term Sophia is derived from a feminine noun meaning wisdom, encompassing the sense of skill, knowledge, deep understanding, careful judgment, and practical wisdom.
The Sophia Journal specifically encourages dialogue between feminism and the disciplines of theology, religious studies, the humanities, and the social sciences. This orientation reflects the journal’s commitment to an interdisciplinary approach in all of its publications.
Journal Scope
The topics covered by this journal include, but are not limited to:
- Christian feminist studies;
- Constructive and alternative feminist theology;
- Feminist hermeneutics in the study of Scripture and religious texts;
- Gender and sexuality studies;
- Disability studies, trauma studies, and social vulnerability;
